WHOOP 5.0: The Good, The Bad, and The Battery Life

I grabbed the Whoop 5.0 recently, but before diving into the details, here’s some context. Over the last 5-6 years, I’ve bounced between using an Apple Watch and an Oura ring. Both have their perks, and honestly, I was in better shape back then. But that’s a story for another day. Today, let’s talk Whoop 5.0.
I actually bought the Whoop 4 just two months before the 5.0 dropped — yeah, I was a bit annoyed. Still, I was curious to see what upgrades they brought with the new model. The biggest standout? Battery life. The 5.0 lasts about 14 days on a single charge, compared to 4-5 days on the 4. That’s a massive jump. The fancy $500+ version has more features (like continuous blood pressure monitoring), but that’s not really my jam.
Here’s a quick rundown of what’s new:
Hardware Upgrades:
Smaller and lighter: The 5.0 is about 7% smaller and weighs 26.5 grams, making it way more comfortable for all-day wear.
Better sensors: It’s got an upgraded heart rate sensor, a more accurate accelerometer, and improved skin temperature tracking. Data is captured 26 times per second now.
Battery life: Over 14 days on a single charge—more than triple the previous version.
Charging options: You can charge it the old-fashioned way with a wired USB-C charger (about 2.5 hours off your wrist) or use the new wireless PowerPack charger that charges it on your wrist in about 110 minutes.
Improved Bluetooth and haptics: Smoother connection and subtle vibrations for alerts.
Waterproof: IP68 rating means it’s dust-tight and can handle up to 10 meters underwater.
New bands: Redesigned buckle system and new styles like CoreKnit, SuperKnit, LeatherLuxe, etc. Heads up — 4.0 bands don’t fit the 5.0.
New App Features (vary by membership tier):
Healthspan with WHOOP Age: Calculates your “physiological age” and “pace of aging” based on key health metrics. (Not for under 18)
Heart Screener with ECG (WHOOP MG only): FDA-cleared ECG to detect atrial fibrillation and irregular rhythms. (Not for under 22 or certain health conditions)
Blood Pressure Insights (WHOOP MG Beta): Wrist-based blood pressure estimates—not a medical device.
Women’s Hormonal Insights: Personalized tips on how hormonal changes affect recovery, sleep, stress, and performance.
Sleep Score update: A revamped sleep score for more accurate insights.
Coming soon — WHOOP Advanced Labs: Blood tests integrated with the app and clinician reports for deeper health analysis.
I’ve been wearing the 5.0 for about two weeks now and honestly, it’s not a night-and-day difference. I’m also trying to focus on getting healthier without the distractions of my Apple Watch. But here’s the thing: the app is really what makes Whoop shine.
If you’re curious, try it for 30 days and let me know how it goes!

🚀 The Future of Video Creation is Here: Google Veo 3
A few years ago, AI-generated video was a novelty—remember Will Smith "eating spaghetti" in that surreal, glitchy clip? We’ve come a long way since then.
With Google Veo 3, we’re getting a taste of what’s next—and it’s exciting.
Why This Matters
Veo 3 isn’t just another step forward—it’s a leap.
Sound Design: Add sound effects, ambient noise, and even AI-generated dialogue.
Unreal Quality: Best-in-class physics, realism, and prompt adherence.
This is the kind of tool that turns ideas into mini-movies with ease. (Expect some wild experiments in future newsletters—I’m already scripting AI-powered shorts.)
The Bigger Picture
Here’s my prediction: Within 5 years, we’ll see indie AI studios producing full-length films with tiny teams. The barriers to high-quality storytelling are crumbling fast.
We’re not just watching the evolution of video tools—we’re witnessing the birth of a new creative era.
Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.
